Road parade
sponsored by ESP Cars

The Road Parade is always a highlight of the carnival - the vibrant displays really get everyone in a carnival mood!
If you would like to take part in the Road Parade, there are basically two options: a float or a walking party (or both, of course). If you find it difficult to get a vehicle for a float please contact Adrian Johnson who may be able to help. Alternatively, we encourage you to consider the option of entering a walking party.
Either way, the more creative and imaginative your entry is, the better it looks, and will attract more admiration than simply dressing a van with balloons! Don't forget that there is a competition for the best-dressed float and walking party! Prizes are awarded for the best entry in a variety of classes:
- best children's float
- best adult float
- best walking party
You can enter the Road Parade by filling in the application form which is available here.
Fund raising
Fund raising on the day is important to help the funding of the carnival. To help the Carnival fund-raise on the day it would be very much appreciated if each float or walking party would provide two people over the age of 16 to walk alongside their road parade entry and collect on behalf of the association.
(All groups participating in the road parade are reminded that the LECCA has the official Street Collection Permit for Carnival Day, and it is therefore contrary to regulations for any other collections to be taken. You can, of course, book a stall and have a fund-raising activity there.)
Route
The assembly point for all floats is Sheet Stores Industrial Estate, Bosworth Way (off Fields Farm Road). All floats should be in place and registered by 10.30 am. The parade will move off at 11 am and turn right along Tamworth Road towards Long Eaton.
The assembly point for walking parties is in the car park of the The Royal Oak, 349 Tamworth Road (opposite the Bike Shop). All parties are to be in place and registered by 10.30 am.
From there the parade proceeds up Tamworth Road to Market Place. It then turns left at the Green onto Derby Road and keeps going up to Wilsthorpe Island where it turns left. The walking parties come onto West Park through the Leisure Centre car park, whilst the floats come in through the Event Field entrance (where the funfair is).
Note that the route, and roads leading onto the route, are subject to a Road Closure Order from 11:00 to 13:00. There will be inevitable delays to traffic that will have to wait until the closure is lifted.
